In a significant development, the Union Cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister approved rehabilitation package for the Dal dwellers worth ` 356 crore, today. It is pertinent to mention here that the commitment for this package was made by the Prime Minister during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir last year.

The Housing and Urban Development Department which administers Lakes and Waterways Development Authority, had taken up with Union Ministry of Environment and Forests the project for funding the compensation to be paid to the Dal dwellers for acquisition of their land and structures within the Dal lake.
